"A person who has never owned a dog has missed a wonderful part of life."
Our darling little dog Hawthorne died on January 19, 2011. He was 19 years, 3 months and nine days old. He was "the heartbeat at our feet" and we are devastated by the loss of our wonderful companion. We know that people say they had the best dog ever, but we truly did have the best dog! He was so sweet and we have so many wonderful stories to share. The tears keep flowing now, but when we are able, we will post some tales of the wonderful Hawthorne Peabody Murphy, faithful friend, loving companion.
"His ears were often the first thing to catch my tears." Elizabeth Barrett Browning, referring her dog
We don't have Hawthorne to catch our tears...

Sheila and Sherrill - I am so sorry to hear that your sweet little Hawthorne died! I can just imagine how hard this is for you.
When you are feeling a little less teary-eyed, I do hope you'll share some stories...

Thank you so much for following me. It is the greatest compliment I can get. So sorry to hear about your sweet little baby!! I know how heartbreaking it is. My last dog comes to visit in my dreams and I still miss her so much. Lovely blog and I am going back to make sure I follow you too! I LOVE antique clothing.
My first dog was also my very first baby. SHe lived only 11 years ( bit by a black widow when we were in Italy) and she died when I wasn't with her. The ONLY time I left her for that long. She was a Russian WOlfhound, and I thought I couldn't bare to get another dog....and then a few months passed and I missed the company and love so we started thinking.... I was afraid to get another WOflhound, I thought it would remind me of her too much and maybe make me sadder...We got two little dogs about four months later and I do adore them, but it is different than my Nika and we all agree to get another one some day. Your little Hawthorne will remember all the love you have him and how happy that made you and he would want you to have that again. No one ever takes their place, but our world is a better place because of them. ((((()))))))
